Maintaining a work-life balance is a constant challenge, and he’s had to make sacrifices along the way, especially when it comes to his social life.

“It’s definitely not easy, and I know I already mentioned the social sacrifice. I’ve definitely paid the price over the years in terms of impacted relationships and friendships. And not even in a drastic way. It’s just naturally, you don’t have enough time there. Maybe not enough, but you don’t have as much time for those people as you would want.”

He notes that there's often an assumption that there’s a perfect balance to be found, but in reality, it’s much more complicated . “I think there’s an assumption that there’s a sweet spot that you can find, when in reality, a lot of the time it doesn’t exist. You kind of have to— I don’t want to say pick a side—but you have to put a certain amount of eggs in one basket and see how many are left for the personal stuff.”

However, Steve has found that the best way to manage his balance is through combining work and personal time when possible. “The best middle ground, and this is going to come as no surprise, is when I’m at Fenway with friends. I feel like I’m killing two birds with one stone.”
