When it comes to breaking into the sports industry, Steve emphasized the importance of gaining hands-on experience through internships. He specifically mentioned how Endicott College's requirement for students to complete internships played a crucial role in his own career. As he put it, “I can’t emphasize this enough, this is easily the thing I talk about the most, but them requiring internships was massive.” According to Steve, internships not only gave him practical skills but also allowed him to build valuable connections within the industry.

Beyond just industry experience, Steve explained that internships helped him grow personally and professionally by pushing him out of his comfort zone. “It was massive because it got me out of my shell. I wasn’t anti-social in high school, I just didn’t talk nearly as much as I do now or did in college because you got to be around people doing similar things, and that wanted to go down a similar path.” Being surrounded by like-minded individuals in a professional setting helped him develop the confidence and communication skills that have become crucial to his career in sports media.

Ultimately, Steve made it clear that without internships, his career path would have looked very different. One of the quotes that stuck out to me most throughout the entire interview was,“All that to say, without the internships, there’s no chance I’m doing what I’m doing now.” His experience highlights just how important real-world opportunities are for anyone looking to break into the sports industry.
